travel south america columbia cartagena old town cathedral & plaza san pedro claver

The Spanish colonial Cathedral San Pedro Claver was founded in 1603 and houses the remains of San Pedro Claver Corbero (Saint Peter Claver, 1580-1654).
San Pedro Claver was Jesuit who became the patron saint of slaves of Columbia.
He ministered to enslaved Africans when Cartagena was the largest slave market in the Caribbean.
The Cathedral is situated on the beautifully maintained Plaza San Pedro Claver that is home to interesting modern scrap metal sculptures by Columbian artist Eduardo Carmona.
